My journey into filmmaking began through the lens of a micro-four thirds camera during a challenging period in my life. What started as a therapeutic pursuit to capture the world through my perspective evolved into a profound passion for visual storytelling. Photography became my gateway to understanding light, composition, and the technical craft that would later serve my transition into filmmaking.
The catalyst for this transformation was deeply personal—documenting my ailing father in his final years. Through portraiture, I discovered the raw honesty and beauty that could be contained within a single frame, and the power of preserving not just image, but voice and story. This experience ignited my drive to expand beyond still photography into the realm of moving pictures, where I could fully encapsulate my lifelong love of storytelling.
My creative foundation spans multiple mediums—from creative writing and poetry to classic literature and role-playing games across various platforms. This diverse background in narrative construction, combined with my technical expertise developed through years of photographic experimentation, has prepared me for the unique challenges of documentary filmmaking.
As a self-taught filmmaker, I've invested considerable time studying the masters of documentary cinema, analyzing their techniques and understanding what creates compelling, authentic storytelling. My ADHD brain, with its capacity for hyperfocus, has been instrumental in absorbing everything I can about lighting, composition, and exposure. This same intensity now drives my exploration of cinematography and film craft.
My technical proficiency includes mastery of DaVinci Resolve for editing and color grading, experience capturing broadcast-quality audio with timecode synchronization, and a passion for composing shots that serve the story. Years of location scouting and working with natural lighting have prepared me for the outdoor challenges that documentary work demands.
What defines my approach is the combination of technical skill, creative vision, and passionate dedication to storytelling. My natural creativity, honed through various artistic mediums over the years, now finds its truest expression through the cinematic medium—where I can merge my love of narrative with my technical mastery of the visual arts.
